What This Grant Will Make Possible

Preservation leaders have deemed Gobin worthy of restoration not only because of its nearly 100-year-old architectural significance, but because it continues to serve as a vital hub for worship, community outreach, and campus partnership. These grants will allow us to restore and protect this sacred space — from roof and masonry repair to window restoration and accessibility upgrades, ensuring that it remains a welcoming home for all.

This investment is not just about preserving our past, it is about securing the next 100 years of ministry, music, service, and hospitality for every person who walks through our doors.

Expanding Community Programs

The grant will allow Gobin Church to expand outreach efforts, strengthen existing ministries, and offer more resources to individuals and families in need across the community.

Facility

Improvements

Upgrades to key areas of the church building will create safer, more welcoming spaces for worship, learning, and connection — ensuring accessibility and comfort for all.

Justice and Compassion in Action

With expanded resources, Gobin Church will deepen its ministries of justice and compassion—standing with those on society’s margins and building a more equitable, inclusive community.

Preserving Place, Serving People

Funding supports a comprehensive preservation effort: replacing the slate roof, restoring windows, repairing masonry and plaster, updating sanctuary climate and ceiling systems, and improving accessibility—so this sacred space remains safe, beautiful, and welcoming.

We’re restoring more than a building—we’re renewing a home for worship, hospitality, and service.

More Than Maintenance

This work isn’t simply about keeping up an old building—it’s about strengthening a living ministry. By restoring a sacred space that hosts worship, justice-oriented outreach, the arts, and everyday hospitality, we’re investing in the people who rely on Gobin week after week.

Preservation here is practical discipleship: safer, more accessible, and more welcoming space that amplifies mission.

Community Impact

Gobin’s doors are open seven days a week—for worship and music, recovery groups, student programs, civic gatherings, and outreach that meets neighbors where they are.

Preserving this campus safeguards a shared home for hope, learning, and connection across Greencastle, DePauw, and the wider community.

Partners & Matching Support

We’re honored to receive a $500,000 grant from the National Fund for Sacred Places, along with an additional $260,000 from Sacred Places Indiana (Indiana Landmarks/Lilly Endowment Inc.).

These awards recognize the architectural significance of Gobin’s 1928 sanctuary and the vitality of its community mission, helping accelerate restoration.

Economic & Cultural Investment

This restoration represents a significant investment in Greencastle’s cultural infrastructure—preserving a landmark while strengthening the local economy.

By safeguarding a premier venue for worship, the arts, civic gatherings, and campus partnerships, the project supports local jobs, encourages tourism, and contributes to downtown vitality, ensuring this sacred space continues to anchor community life for decades to come.

Our Next Century

We are in the silent phase of the capital campaign, building leadership commitments now, with a public launch anticipated in January 2026.

The result will be a renewed, accessible, and enduring campus—positioned to serve all people through worship, the arts, education, and care for the next hundred years.
